A massive screw with a three ball handle that exerts a spreading action on the two shaped nuts - acting like a bottle jack but upside down.
The end cap is a press fitted ball joint, so it will swivel to adjust to uneven surfaces but cannot be used for pulling, in other words, the nut halfway up has to form the fixed part of the mechanism and the screw delivers pressure away from it, as in a Scandinavian face vice for example.
This is a huge screw - the three ball handle is 9⅜" (nearly 24cm) across.
Ideal for building into a sturdy frame to make a press - veneering, laminating, wood block printing, apple juice...?
