Thor Hammer

Thor Hammer

Thor Hammer Company can trace its roots back to 1910 when The Birmingham Belting Co Ltd was founded in Snow Hill, Birmingham, by the Stephens family, who 13 years later started making a range of rawhide hammers and mallets, some of which they still manufacture today. The company is named after the Norse God Thor, who's throwing hammer 'Mjölnir" always sped straight to its target and rebounded directly back to Thor's hand.

These hammers are truly a part of British History; in the 1930's, a Thor copper hide hammer was supplied in the toolkit of almost every British sports car for safely undoing the chrome spinner on wire spoked wheels, during the war years the government ordered huge numbers of them for constructing temporary bridges and repairing tanks...silently! Today sees Thor hammers and mallets used in all manner of engineering industries including Formula One, Aerospace, Mining, Railway, NATO & UK MoD.

It remains a family owned and run business, who still process the same raw materials, using the the same techniques as they did when they started out and we are proud to have such a legendary, local manufacturer as part of our 'family' of brands.
