Hishika Japanese saws are individually handmade in the finest traditions of the Japanese sawmaking craft.
The sawsmiths forge and scrape the blades by hand, using techniques that would have been familiar to smiths of the Meiji era (1868-1912).
The traditional apprenticeship for a sawmaker is five years, but as any of the Hishika journeymen and masters will confirm, this is only the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning.
Handmade Japanese saws are through hardened. They track like a dream and cut with unparalleled smoothness, but are less tolerant of mistreatment than their modern counterparts and will break if bent past their limits. We therefore suggest that they are more suitable for those who already have some experience with Japanese saws.
