Providing a comfortable grip and half a kilo of welcome additional heft when using a bench plane on a shooting board, the British made Shooting Star is a beautifully engineered piece of kit.
The body of the handle is machined from a billet of solid brass, slotted to fit over the side wing of the plane and held in place with a pair of grub screws that can be installed from either side. The anodised aluminium top lug can also be installed on either side for left or right handed use and nestles comfortably into the web of the thumb providing a secure grip.
Can be installed or removed in moments, or for dedicated shooting board planes, fitted instead of the tote which gives more space for the fingers.
Compatible with Quangsheng, Lie-Nielsen, Veritas, Stanley, Record etc. If you want to check the sidewings of your plane to be sure it will fit, the slot is 5.6mm wide and 15mm deep in the centre.
Made in England.
"This streamlined billet of brass can be attached to either of the side walls of a regular bench plane .. if you have a low angle jack plane to fix it to you're getting very close to the geometry and ergonomics of a dedicated shooting plane."
Derek Jones, Quercus Magazine May/June 2021
"The British made Shooting Star is a beautifully engineered piece of kit… will transform performance.. turning what is usually a rather awkward, slightly painful process, into something controlled, accurate and pleasurable."
John Lloyd, Shooting Star On Test The Woodworker June 2021
