Ray Iles RI022 2¼" (50mm) parallel plane iron fits some early Stanley, Record and Marples No. 5 1/2's that were made for a slightly narrower blade. Steel and heat treatment compare favourably with the original irons and the additional thickness greatly reduces flutter on more challenging timber.

- O1 carbon steel hardened to RC59-61.

Planes that originally had thinner irons may in some cases need the mouth opening slightly with a file.
