Every Mujingfang plane is crafted by hand from a single piece of carefully selected air dried timber. The surfaces are shaped by hand and finished with scrapers to expose the natural sheen of the wood.
Used on either the push or pull stroke, Taiwanese planes differ from Japanese kanna in that the iron is retained by the sprung cap iron rather than being inset into the body.
Body: African Jackalberry (diospyros mespiliformis) - a beautifully figured species of ebony, hand scraped and fitted with a dovetailed brass wear strip forming the front of the mouth.
- Blade: W/Mo High Speed Steel RC64
- The sole is 175mm x 53mm with a 41mm cutting iron.
