Strops, Mops & Compounds

A polishing mop loaded with polishing compound is the best way to hone the curved edges of carving tools and polish other metal surfaces.

Leather strops loaded with Chromium oxide are best for smoothing the straight cutting edges of chisels and plane irons. You can usually strop a freshly honed edge back to life half a dozen times or more before re-honing, and you can hone it a dozen times before you need to regrind it, giving a total of 72 fresh edges between grindings.
