Stabilised Spalted Beech

Professionally resin stabilised endgrain cut blocks of beautifully spalted beech, sized as knife handle blanks and suitable for making knife handles, tool handles or other small projects. Made using high quality resin (not unpleasantly smelly to work with) and a three week process during which the weight of the blocks doubles.

Stabilised timber has working properties halfway between wood and plastic, grain direction still affects the optimum working direction but not the strength of the material, hence we can get away with an endgrain slice. Stabilised wood is self finishing so working through progressively finer abrasives is all that is needed to bring it to a beautiful high gloss surface; for the final stage 3M polishing papers work extremely well.
