Jarrah (Australian)

A real favourite with Australian woodworkers, jarrah is a strong, dense, stable hardwood and is an absolute pleasure to work with. Somewhat harder than oak, straight grained jarrah has a very uniform texture that lends itself well to turnery, veneering, cabinetry and carving. Jarrah responds beautifully to a sharp tools and accepts a wide range of finishes. The strong orangey red colour matures to a rich chocolate brown as it ages and figure variations can include tiger stripe (flame), birdseye, flecked, and some exceptionally beautiful burrs. Jarrah burrs have swirling grain, with many tight knots and vibrant colors making it a prized timber among wood turners.
