Made from hardened stainless steel with deeply etched graduations, the Shinwa 700A taper gauge can be slid into gaps to measure them to a tenth of a mm - the marks correspond to the width of the gauge in mm at that point on the taper.
The 700A is a taper gauge, not a bore gauge, (bore gauges look similar but are graduated for the width of the hypotenuse through the body of the gauge). A conversion table is provided on the reverse side of the 700A giving the equivalent readings for bores, taking into account the thickness of the gauge itself.
