Quite rare to find a set of Sorby’s, especially in such good condition as this.
¼” to 1” by eighths plus 1-1/4” and 1-1/2”
4,6,8, 10, 12,14, 16, 20, 24
As with other makes the largest sizes were often ‘specials’, individually handmade to order, the 1-1/2” in this set is an excellent example with a lovely thin hand forged web and a delightful kangaroo mark.
Robert Sorby & Sons was established in 1828, the company’s founder, Robert, was the 4x great grandson of Sheffield’s first Master Cutler, so there were at least as many years of Sheffield toolmaking history in the family before him as there have been since. The company are still in Sheffield and continue to thrive, they have just moved to new larger premises.
Supplied in a new British made auger roll with a new auger bit file.
