Petrograd Froe - Uglich 300mm

The froe splits straight grained wood with a great deal of control.

Used in conjunction with a roughly made club, usually just a piece of branchwood thinned to form a handle at one end, the froe is driven into the endgrain to cleave the fibres and then levered to propogate the split.

Froes are halving tools, you begin by halving the log, then split each piece in half and repeat until you end up with riven blanks the size and shape you want.

Hand forged & beautifully welded construction from 65G steel, hardened to 59 HRc, fitted with a shapely maple handle.

  • Blade depth 60 mm.
  • Thickness 10mm
  • Length (from tip to handle centreline): 12" (300mm).
  • Handle length: 17-1/4" (440mm)
  • Made in Russia
