A long bladed traditional socketed framers chisel.
The blade is hand forged from ШХ15 ball bearing steel (USA 52100, G52986, J19965; Germany 1.3505, 100Cr6, 102Cr6) which, as you would expect for a bearing steel, is incredibly cohesive, wear resistant, crush resistant, and takes a very high polish. Hardened to RC 55 - 58, which is just shy of being maxed out but that's plenty for a tool that needs to be easily sharpenable on site, the steel's inherent properties will take care of the rest for you - fabulous stuff!
At the shoulder, the blade is 10 mm thick, tapering to 7 mm behind the bevel.
The handles are turned from straight grained ash, fastened with a conical socket and constrained with a thick stainless ring to reinforce the butt when working with a mallet or hammer. A wipe down with tung oil every now and again will keep them in top condition.
Please note; the handles are permanently attached, they are not designed to be knocked in and out like a bench chisel.
Available in widths of 1" (25mm), 1½" (38mm) and 2" (50mm).
- Blade length: 7½" (190mm),
- Overall length: 18" (460mm).
- Totally hand made at PETROGRAD factory of joinery and carpentry tools.
