The Petrograd Suzdal X is a highly evolved carpenters axe with a straight cutting edge for forming flat, square bottomed joints that retain the fibre strength of the workpiece.
The poll is designed to be used as a hammer for knocking in pegs, the throat is relieved so you can grip right underneath it for planing and carving cuts.
The straight handle is egg shaped in section, flared at the shoulder for strength and the heel for a nice secure grip. Perfect for timber framing.
