A standard (10-1/2" cutting edge) flat, straight bladed drawknife with raised arms so it can be used flush with a surface if required. The drawknife is a really quick way to get a piece of wood, green or brown, almost to the finished shape. With a little practice they are so efficient it almost feels like cheating.
Petrograd drawknives are hand forged and ground from 65G high carbon tool steel, through hardened from front to back (RC 55-58) so they can be sharpened until the blade is gone. They are fitted with proper old fashioned beech plain octagon handles and come with a beautiful handmade fully welted leather cover.
Blade width 36 mm.
Blade thickness - 6 mm.
Sharpening angle - 30 degrees.
The design of the drawknives, as well as their sharpening, is recommended by the Russian Carpenters Union for debarking and carpentry work on fitting logs. Other kinds of carpentry work may require regrinding.
