Maple

Maple

Maple, (Acer saccharum) predominantly from Canada

The sapwood of Maple is more commonly used rather than its heartwood. Colours range from nearly white, to an off-white cream color, sometimes with a reddish or golden hue. Grain, with a fine texture, is often straight but can also be wavy.

It can be worked by hand, despite its higher density, which is preferable as it has a tendancy to burn when machined at high-speed. It responds well to turning, glue and finishing though be aware that blotches may occur if stained.

Our Maple will be highly figured eg:  Birdseye, fiddleback, quilled etc.
