Hitachi Yasuki Laminated Blue Paper Steel No2

    £26.50
A 1mm Hitachi Ao Gami blue paper steel core with 1.25mm unalloyed iron cheeks laminated on either side. To maintain the purity of the steel and minimise carbon diffusion use a charcoal forge if possible. Forge at 800-900 Celsius, forge weld at 1100 Celsius using borax to flux the surfaces. After forging and grinding, cycle at 770 Celsius to relieve the mechanical tension built up in the forging process and cool slowly. Harden at 800 Celsius a...

Hitachi Yasuki Laminated White Paper Steel No2

    £24.10
A 1mm Hitachi Shiro Gami White paper steel core with 1.25mm unalloyed iron cheeks laminated on either side. To maintain the purity of the steel and minimise carbon diffusion use a charcoal forge if possible. Forge at 800-900 Celsius, forge weld at 1100 Celsius using borax to flux the surfaces. After forging and grinding, cycle at 750 Celsius to release any tension from the forging process, harden at 775 Celsius and quench in warm water (850 Ce...
  3. Hitachi Yasuki Blue Paper Steel No2

    £61.50
Hitachi Ao Gami blue paper steel is white paper steel with added alloying elements which improve its toughness and wear resistance. In practice this means you can leave blue a little bit harder than white and get the same toughness. Once hardened and tempered both types will take and hold a fine edge with no persistent burr. To maintain the purity of the steel and minimise carbon diffusion use a charcoal forge if possible. Forge at 800-900 Cel...

Hitachi Yasuki White Paper Steel No2

    £46.50
Hitachi Shiro Gami White paper steel is one of the purest steels available anywhere in the world. Made from iron ore sand that is so rich it can be extracted from river beds with magnets, white paper steel is extremely fine grained and once forged and heat treated, displays phenomenal sharpening and edge holding characteristics. To maintain the purity of the steel and minimise carbon diffusion use a charcoal forge if possible. Forge at 800-900...
  5. Japanese Shiro 2 Suminagashi Steel

    £49.80
A 2mm thick "Shiro 2" white carbon steel core (C 0.95-1.0, Cr 0.2-0.5, Ni 0.7-1.3) with eleven alternating layers of soft and hard steel on either side. The inclusion of Nickel and Chromium in the core layer broaden the temperature range in which a Martensitic structure is produced after quenching. This makes it easier to produce a really good blade when hand forging. To maintain the purity of the steel and minimise carbon diffusion use a cha...
