The style favoured by many Japanese carpenters, the oval head gennou flares out toward the faces with a slight bulge at the eye. As with the other hammers in the range, selectively hardened faces provide durability, vibration absorption and maximise transfer of energy to the workpiece.
Unlike mallets which can be held in several different ways, hammers are always gripped the same, with the thumb on top pinching the handle against the middle pad of the forefinger. The force of the blow is varied by using a smaller or larger segment of the swing.
