Toothed on the external face and smooth on the inside and edges, Iwasaki half round files are lovely precise tools for shaping internal curves.
As you can see from the photos, the resulting surface is planed smooth, requiring minimal cleaning up
Japanese carving files are designed to work with the grain. The tool will work efficiently under its own weight, reducing the pressure as you approach the finished shape will help to yield the smoothest possible surface.

You won’t regret getting one
Absolutely fantastic file when used with the grain (only had chance to use it once so far). Leaves a beautifully smooth finish on beech with minimal sanding needed afterwards. Only problem is I’ve got my eye on getting a full set now. Would highly recommend. Great service from workshop heaven too.
