Gyokucho

Gyokucho invented the first replaceable blade Japanese saw back in the 1970's, and still lead the industry in terms of quality and innovation.

The blades of their saws receive a special surface treatment called electroless nickel plating. The plating produces a very smooth surface that resists corrosion and the adhesion of tree resins as well as providing a reflective surface that can be used to accurately align the cut.  The teeth of Gyokucho saws are hardened by a highly developed version of impulse hardening - only the very tip of the tooth is exposed to exactly 27.12MHz for between 3 and 5 milliseconds, the resulting shockwave case hardens the outside of the tip of the tooth to well over RC67 (harder than a file) while leaving the interior soft for maximum strength. This extremely precise differential hardening process is the secret behind Gyokucho's reputation for unparalleled quality.

With careful daily use in a professional workshop, we would typically expect a Gyokucho saw blade to last between 5 and 7 years.
