This 20tpi Roberts & Lee Dorchester dovetail saw is toothed for crosscutting but makes a very smooth starting and accurate saw for dovetails (albeit a little bit slower than the rip tooth version). It is also very handy for tenon shoulders, lap joints and trimming small components to length on a bench hook. The blade is supported by a folded brass spine, it is happiest on material up to three quarters of an inch in thickness.
Dorchester backsaws are a pleasure to work with, the teeth are set and sharpened by hand and cut smoothly with very little effort. The walnut handle is finished with Danish oil.
Backsaws use gravity and the weight of the spine to perform efficiently, they are far more accurate and easier to use if the wood is oriented and the saw kept vertical.
