Common Beech 3rd Bench Grade

Common Beech - Fagus Sylvatica

Some high end toolmakers prefer flamed beech, cut selectively it can be exceptionally beautiful. You do end up with quite a bit left over working this way though – hence the blanks themselves are cheaper.

Alternatively if you are just looking for plenty of strong functional hardwood for workshop projects and bench building, 3rd grade beech is a very cost effective option.

Third grade is a bit of a lucky dip, some pieces are stunning, some only have figure running part way through, others are pretty ugly. You might even get the odd bit that would have been first grade were it not for a crack or a knot.

100 x 90 x 760mm
