Grain direction and face marks with David Charlesworth

Ever notice that sculptors or painters work 'in' bronze or clay or acrylics, but woodworkers of all descriptions work 'with' wood?

Unlike most other craft materials timber is directional and two faces of the same board may have very different working properties. Maintaining an awareness of the internal structure of the material is particularly important in hand tool work.

In this video David Charlesworth talks us through his approach to grain direction and how he uses a series of pencil marks to keep track of each board's individual characteristics throughout the build process.
