Workshop Heaven Hand Stitched Rasps

Workshop Heaven Hand Stitched Rasps

Our Workshop Heaven brand of hand stitched rasps are made in Europe using traditional tools and techniques (including a lovely hammer with a curved handle so that the stitcher can work towards their body without straining).

Hand stitching has several advantages over mechanised production: The rasp teeth tend to be of even height but slightly irregular alignment (you can beat the same sound out of a drum repeatedly, but try drawing a dead straight line of dots freehand with your non-dominant hand). This means that from the wood's point of view, it will see a crowd of individual teeth rather than the serried ranks that a machine would produce, and because of that you get a smoother more even surface. The teeth of hand stitched rasps also extend all the way to the edges of the tool so you can work into tight corners.

Our English made walnut handles are based on a Holtzapffel design and are supremely comfortable, the large bulb fills the hand well while the very narrow waist gives the tool a nimble, highly controllable feel.
